Christy Coté is one of the founding members Tango Con*Fusión and has been dancing, choreographing and teaching professionally for more than 33 years specializing in Argentine Tango for the past 15 years and is one of the most respected teachers and choreographers in the U.S. today. She has been featured on San Francisco’s KVTU's Segment 2 Report, KPIX/Channel 5 Evening Magazine and nationally in Dance Spirit Magazine. Christy’s teaching method has been published in the Argentine Tango Manual by Dance Vision and is complimented by a series of 20 instructional DVDs by Christy and partner George Garcia with more than 20K currently in circulation. Christy is based in San Francisco where she teaches at The Metronome Dance Center (San Francisco), Cheryl Burke Dance (Mountain View), & Linden Street Dance (Oakland) with partner Daniel Peters. Her popular Tango Boot Camps have attracted hundreds of students since 2007. Christy also hosts one of San Francisco’s most popular dance parties, The Verdi Club Milonga, every Thursday with partner Adolfo Caszarry. Christy also partners with master teacher, Facundo Posadas, of Buenos Aires. Together they have traveled to festivals across the United States since 2009. Christy as performed with Tango Con*Fusión across the U.S. and in Buenos Aires over the past 8 years. In addition Christy performs with Darren Lees of San Diego. Their credits include NCL’s Tango at Sea Cruises, TANGO X 3 at San Francisco’s Palace of Fine Arts, The Elegant Era, and The Latin Show at the San Jose Center for Performing Arts, The 28th annual San Francisco Ethnic Dance Festival, 49er’s Half Time Show, MonTango U.S. tours, private show for Francis Ford Coppola at his Rubicon estate winery, and ongoing dinner shows at Peña PachaMama Restaurant in San Francisco’s North Beach. Christy’s choreographic credits include Los Diablos Ganchos cruise ship show, Teatro ZinZanni’s Love, Chaos and Dinner with Joan Baez, America’s Got Talent performance by Anna Maria Mendieta and numerous works for Tango Con*Fusión. She also coached the Smuin Ballet company of San Francisco for their production of Tango Palace in 2005 and 2011 and Cheryl Burke of Dancing with the Stars for her starring role in Forever Tango. Christy’s greatest influence was master teachers and iconic performers of Forever Tango Carlos Gavito and Marcela Duran.
