Mira Barakat is a professional Argentine Tango dancer, instructor, and singer, based in the San Francisco Bay Area. She teaches private and group classes around the area, including group classes Tuesday nights at Athletic Playground with Homer Ladas, and she has been a member of Tango Con*Fusión dance company since 2016.
Mira has been dancing Tango since 2006. With a background in Modern Dance, Swing, Blues, and Contact Improv, she immediately felt a connection to the dance, which eventually led her to move to Buenos Aires in 2010 to study, dance, sing and generally soak up Tango. During more than two years there, she studied with some of today’s best dancers.
She returns to Buenos Aires once or twice a year where she curates and co-hosts BA. Tango Evolution – an intensive tango immersion program in Buenos Aires, along with international Tango dancer and teacher Sebastian Arrua.
A classically-trained singer, Mira also sings tango when in Buenos Aires and locally at shows and in milongas with guitarist Scott O’Day and other local tango musicians.
